Truth Worth Fighting For | Summit Kids
Have you ever tried to stand completely still on a thin strip of tape while someone tried to convince you or push you off? It’s uncomfortable, and your feet naturally want to move even when your mind knows you should stay put!
This Sunday, Summit Kids used a painter’s tape challenge to experience what it feels like when people push us to compromise. In Week 3 of Galatians, we explored Galatians 2:1–10, where Paul traveled to Jerusalem and stood firm when people tried to add extra rules to the gospel[cite: 17, 19].
What We Taught: Standing Firm Without Fighting
Paul faced immense pressure from respected leaders to compromise gospel truth[cite: 17, 19]. But Paul held his ground because preserving the pure good news about Jesus mattered more than being agreeable[cite: 17, 19].
Here is what we shared with our kids this week:
Standing Firm Isn't Winning Arguments: Kids don't need to have a theology degree or a quick comeback to stand on the truth.
It’s Okay Not to Know Everything: When friends or culture push back on faith, kids don't have to pretend to have all the answers. They just need to know how to stand on what they do know.
Memory Phrase: "I don't have to know everything to stand on what I know."
Practical Tool: 3 Real Responses for Kids
Instead of overwhelming kids with complex debates, we taught them three simple, practical responses to use whenever someone says something about God or faith that feels "off":
1. "Where did you hear that?" ─────────> (Asks for the source)
2. "Let's see what the Bible says." ──> (Goes to God's Word)
3. "I don't know yet. I'm going to ───> (Seeks a trusted adult)
ask someone I trust."
3 Ways to Bring the Lesson Home
Establish an "Ask Me Anything" Policy: Let your child know that no question is off-limits or too hard. If they ask something you don't know the answer to, say: "I don't know yet, but let's look it up together!"
Roleplay Scenarios: Practice using the 3 responses at home during a lighthearted family chat so your child feels confident using them at school or on the playground.
Fill Out the Faith File Card: Check their backpack for the When I Don't Know card and help them write down 2–3 trusted Christian adults they can go to with hard questions.
