Have you ever looked at a tiny, plain seed and tried to guess what kind of plant it would become? Some seeds are bumpy, others are smooth, and almost none of them look like the flowers, trees, or vegetables they grow into.

This Sunday in Summit Kids, we used a seed-matching game to discover a powerful truth: You can't always tell what something will become just by looking at where it starts.

In Week 2 of our Galatians series (Walking in Freedom), our kids explored Galatians 1:11–24 and looked at the radical transformation of the Apostle Paul.

What We Taught: God Is Still Writing Your Story

Before Paul met Jesus, his name was Saul, and he actually opposed and persecuted Christians[cite: 17, 18]. But when Jesus met him directly, Paul’s life was completely flipped upside down[cite: 17, 18].

Here is what we helped our kids understand this week:

  • You Don't Need a "Dramatic" Story: Many kids in our church have grown up knowing Jesus from a young age. We reminded them that growing up in faith isn't a "boring" story—it's a beautiful testimony of God's protecting grace!

  • God Works in the Small Moments: Just like a seed slowly growing underground, God is constantly at work in our everyday lives—helping us through hard moments, teaching us how to be a good friend, and growing our faith.

  • Your Story Is Unfolding: No matter where your child is today, God isn't finished with them yet!

Memory Phrase: "God is still writing my story."

Interactive Learning: Comic Testimonies

In class, every child created two comic strips:

  1. My God Story: Drawing how they first learned about Jesus, people who have helped them grow, and ways they've seen God help them recently.

  2. What I Hope God Does with My Story: Drawing their hopes for the future—whether that's helping people, creating art, being a faithful friend, or sharing God's love on mission trips.

3 Ways to Bring the Lesson Home

  • Share Your "God Story": Ask your child to show you their comic strips, then share a piece of your own story! Tell them about a time God helped you through a tough season or how you came to trust Jesus.

  • Celebrate Small Growth: Point out places where you see God working in your child’s character (e.g., "I noticed how patient you were with your brother today. God is really growing kindness in you!").

  • Display Their Comic: Put their "God Story" comic on the fridge as a reminder that God is actively working in their life every single day.

Dinner Table Conversation Starters

  • What is one small thing you've noticed God doing in your life lately?

  • Do you ever feel like your story with God isn't "exciting" enough? Why is every God story important?

  • What is one thing you hope God uses your life to do in the future?
