Finding God in the Ordinary: An Update from the Copelands in Ireland

When we think of missionary work, we often picture big stages or organized events. But as our global mission partners Chris and Joi Copeland frequently remind us, ministry in Ireland is slow, relational, and deeply intentional. Out on the mission field, even the ordinary rhythms of life become places of quiet mission.

Recently, Joi shared a beautiful glimpse into how God is using their everyday routines—like going to the local gym—to open doors for unexpected Gospel conversations.

A Divinely Timed Conversation in the Jacuzzi

While Chris was away in England for seminary, Joi kept to their usual routine and went to the gym alone. A small, seemingly random decision to visit the jacuzzi on a Friday afternoon ended up opening the door to a deeply meaningful encounter with a woman visiting from County Meath.

As they chatted about local travel, the conversation quickly shifted to deeper spiritual waters. The woman began sharing her New Age beliefs and perspectives on spirituality.

Though the interaction lasted only fifteen minutes, it was a powerful reminder of why the Copelands are there: to listen, to learn, to pray, and to be entirely present in moments of need so they can share the truth of the Gospel when the Lord opens a door.

The Copelands have asked our Summit family to join them in praying for this specific woman from County Meath: that the Lord would open her eyes and draw her heart toward the true Gospel. They also ask for continued prayers for daily opportunities to be faithful, attentive, and ready for spiritual conversations in the grocery store, at the gym, and with their neighbors.
